Bountiful Food Includes Produce from Our Organic Garden

At Avalon Bed and Breakfast, the food is healthy and delicious, all organic, and whenever possible acquired and produced locally. During the growing season, your breakfast includes produce from Avalon’s organic garden, bursting with herbs, greens, edible flowers, artichokes, strawberries and tomatoes. It’s great to be in California, with its long growing season! The rest of the year, the majority of our food is locally grown or provided.

Breakfast Features Locally
Produced Sonoma County
Organic Ingredients

Awaken each morning to Sonoma County birdsong and Avalon Bed and Breakfast’s three-course meal of prepared fruit, fresh baked pastry and gourmet entree. Fruit dishes include a fresh, local fruit salad, a wine-poached pear, or a tasty just-baked fruit crisp. A specialty of the house is the grapefruit brûlée, with a merlot reduction, topped with torch-heated sugar. Pastries include muffins - such as double corn muffins or blueberry ginger crumble top muffins; crusty drop and tender buttermilk biscuits; and popovers or crumpets - all made from scratch with organic ingredients. Hilary experiments with different flours and gluten-free options to create one-of-a-kind treats, with flavor and texture as her top priorities.

Savor Avalon’s Creative
Specialty Dishes

At Avalon B&B in Sonoma County, we never serve the same breakfast twice during your stay. Daily offerings alternate between sweet and savory dishes. Sample menus include banana pancakes with a homemade spiced syrup, crispy hickory smoked bacon made by Niman Ranch or Black Pig, or Panizzera organic chicken apple sausage from Occidental, popovers and wine-poached pears; or Mexican soufflé with green chili and Mexican spices, homemade guacamole, Pico de Gallo and gluten free chips, along with corn muffins served with jalapeño jelly; or a delicious rolled ham and Gruyere omelet with a mustard béchamel, herbs and edible flowers.

Your Alternative Dietary Choices Are Happily Accommodated
Low fat, gluten-free, no eggs, vegetarian, vegan and low calorie options are just some of the meal choices that Avalon B&B has accommodated. With Hilary’s talent for cooking, she actually loves the challenge of a special diet and she will happily adapt the meal to your needs.

Enjoy Afternoon Teatime Sweets and Gluten-Free Cookies
Using organic ingredients, Hilary bakes a large variety of cookies and pastries from scratch and is always experimenting with new recipes. Some of the favorites are the “Chocolate Bombs,” a frosted chocolate shortbread cookie; the Sour Cream Chocolate Chip Cookie, which is cakey and fabulous; and the “Kitchen Cookie,” which starts with a chocolate chip cookie dough and has added goodies including dried fruit, white chocolate chips and nuts. The Kitchen Cookie is never the same twice.

Have you given up cookies because of a flourless gluten-free diet? At Avalon B&B a number of the cookies are gluten-free. If you tell us your dietary needs, we’ll be happy to whip up a special batch during your stay. They are so good you won’t even miss the flour. Two favorites are a flourless almond cookie that is nutty and rich, and wheat-free chocolate chip nut cookies.

World Class Dining in Sonoma County Wine Country

One of the great perks of staying at Avalon Bed and Breakfast is our central Sonoma County location. Sonoma County is home to some of the most unique and delicious culinary experiences in Northern California. If you would like to make reservations or discuss your restaurant choices, just speak with us and we will be happy to help you choose. Here are some of our current favorites:

Sonoma County Restaurants We Recommend

Underwood Bar & Bistro:  This is our favorite local hangout, featured in Wine Spectator in 2008.  Definitive California Wine Country Cuisine in a quaint space in downtown Graton.  Fabulous patio seating on the side and in the backyard, too, but the bar seating is way fun! Great fusion menu with a Mediterranean influence.  Casual attire. Moderate to high prices. 5 minutes to Graton.  www.underwoodgraton.com

K&L Bistro:  Shabby-chic exposed brick setting in an old building in downtown Sebastopol, K&L offers up-to-date Sonoma Cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere with wonderful, friendly service. Casual attire and moderate to high prices. 15 minutes drive in Sebastopol.  http://www.opentable.com/rest_profile.aspx?rid=2389

Willi’s Winebar:  Small plates abound at this fabulous trendy bistro-style wine bar in Northern Santa Rosa.  An amazingly diverse selection of tapas size treats, along with a top notch wine list awaits you.  Casual dress is perfect in this country setting.  Prices are low, but since the portions are small, they can add up... or not.  25 minutes away in Santa Rosa.  http://www.williswinebar.net/index_willis.html

The Farmhouse:  Situated in the country in Forestville, this elegant French restaurant has all the elements of a five-star dining experience.  Perfectly prepared cuisine, expert service and a beautiful dining room.  Attire is more dressy, service is formal, prices are high.  15 minutes drive in Forestville.  http://www.farmhouseinn.com/restaurant.html

Peter Lowell’s:  All earth-friendly, all the time.  This cozy bistro, featuring organic and locally provided ingredients to their delicious, Italian-influenced menu, is housed in a totally environmentally-conscious building, with reclaimed water, solar energy, permeable concrete and non-toxic paints and building materials. Love your Mother Earth, and love your dinner at the very same time.  Attire is West Sonoma County (casual funky) and the prices are moderate to high.  15 minutes away in Sebastopol.  www.peterlowells.com

The Duck Club: At the Bodega Bay Lodge, the Duck Club has a fabulous picture window which looks out on the bay, and you can watch the sun set over Bodega Head while you dine.  A wonderful menu featuring fresh seafood selections and grill.  An extensive wine list.  The atmosphere is elegant, but casual, and the prices are moderate to high.  30 minutes away on the water in Bodega Bay.  http://www.bodegabaylodge.com/hotel-dining.html

John Ash & Company:  A well-established wonderful Wine Country dining experience awaits you at John Ash.  Dine inside or out on the lovely covered patio by the vineyard.  Delicious and thoughtful cuisine served with impeccable style in a most beautiful setting.  Attire is more dressy and the prices are moderate to high.  25 minutes away in Santa Rosa.  http://www.vintnersinn.com/dining/johnash.asp

River’s End:  A most outstanding view of the Pacific Ocean.  Fabulous cuisine with that Wine Country flair and a very friendly atmosphere can be found at this great family-run restaurant.  This one is a bit farther away, but absolutely worth the drive! Dress code is casual and the prices are moderate to high.  50 minutes drive in Jenner by the Sea.  www.ilovesunsets.com

Hiro’s Japanese Restaurant: Best sushi ever in your life.  A chic atmosphere and very friendly service combine with a fabulous menu to make this restaurant one of our favorites in the area.  Very interesting saki list, including sake cocktails.  Trendy attire, prices are moderate to high. 35 minutes away in Petaluma.  http://www.hirosrestaurant.com/
